Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, we are all trying to stay at home and stay safe, by practicing social distancing, but we also want to keep ourselves healthy and immunity strong. Dr Cherry Ezzat, a recognized anti-ageing and functional medicine practitioner at Dermalase Clinic, has put together some tips to help you with the same.

Stick to a routine – Start a new routine or stick to your old one and modify it to be indoors. Get up at a regular time, take a shower and get dressed as you would on a normal day. Enjoy your day and go to sleep at your normal time.

Boost your immune system – Eat foods that are healthy and high in nutrients to boost your immune system. Cut down on foods with added sugars and starch, yup that means cakes and fries. Make sure you are consuming good amounts of proteins, like eggs, chicken, broccoli, oats and many more. Add spices like turmeric, oregano and rosemary to your meals in addition to garlic and onion, as well as plenty of colorful fruits and vegetables. Make sure you are consuming some immune enhancing nutritional supplements high in vitamin C, D, A, zinc and selenium. Fermented foods support your microbiome and immunity and should be a part of your meals. Most importantly drink plenty of fluids.

Exercise – Incorporate a regular exercise routine into your routine. Just 30-45 minutes a day can help you be productive and help you maintain a healthy body. An at-home workout routine that includes body weight exercises such as pushups, sit ups, planks, squats, jumping, dancing and stretching. Meditating and staying mentally fit helps too. Sometimes just breathing helps you take care of all the home schooling with your kids.

Sleep – Sleep is really important. Aim for 7-8 hours of sleep to help restore and heal your body naturally. Get sufficient sleep at night to be able to follow through your routines during the day.

Managing Stress – This situation does bring with it a lot of stress, but it is important to manage it. Whether it is by meditation or exercise or just by talking to someone, but this is important, aschronic stress can affect your immune system. Your immune system is the defense against viruses and microbes.
