Common Diagnostic and Therapeutic Procedures practiced by a Gastroenterologist

Our gastroenterology centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi offer several different diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. These include endoscopy, endoscopic ultrasound, colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), sigmoidoscopy, capsule endoscopy, double balloon endoscopy and liver biopsy.

Gastroenterology facilities established by the Avivo Health Group in Dubai and Abu Dhabi are fully equipped to perform the endoscopic examination under the supervision of medical experts. We own advanced video endoscopy systems and equipments for gastrointestinal endoscopy performed on both the upper and the lower parts of the tract. The latest technology that we use during endoscopy examination procedure produces effective photos and videos of the whole procedure, capturing the inside structures of the GI Tract on the screen and records.

Endoscopy Procedure:

To examine a patient’s digestive tract, the most common non-surgical procedure of endoscopy is performed. This procedure makes use of the endoscope, which is a flexible tube that is inserted inside the GI Tract via different openings and consists of a light and camera to show its journey inside the digestive tract on a color TV monitor.

To perform upper endoscopy, the tube enters the esophagus via the mouth and passing easily through the throat, examining the upper structures of the digestive tract that includes the stomach and the upper small intestine.

To perform lower endoscopy, the tube is passed through the patient’s rectum into the colon to examine the lower structures for ulcers and polyps in lining of the colon. This type of endoscopy is named as colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy.

ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-Pancreatograpghy), a special form of endoscopy is performed by your Gastroenterologist to examine the gallbladder and the pancreas for bile and pancreatic ductal systems.

Endoscopic ultrasound as its name implies, combines the procedure of ultrasound and upper endoscopy to produce images of the different and complex parts of the GI Tract.

Our gastroenterologists ensure that all endoscopic procedures are safe and effective for their patients. The procedure of endoscopy is commonly practiced on an outpatient basis, thus describing the convenience and ease of the practice of the procedure. Endoscopy is not only performed to examine the patient’s condition, however, in many cases they solely eliminate the cause of trouble, leaving the patients relieved of all symptoms.
