GYNAECOLOGY
Avivo Health Group’s has a well-equipped surgical facility that offers comprehensive surgical procedures for Gynaecological disorders in women. Our team of skilled experts and Gynaecology Surgeons, who have been trained with medically advanced and minimally invasive surgical approaches, provide solutions for all women’s health issues.
Some gynaecological minor surgeries can be performed on an out-patient basis however, other complex and major surgical procedures require the patient’s admittance into our hospital. Common gynaecological surgeries performed under the expertise of our gynaecology surgeons include:
Gynaecology Services are offered from the following centres of AVIVO Group:
Advanced Laparoscopic Procedures
The laparoscopic surgical procedures are performed using a laparoscope, which is inserted through small incisions inside the abdominal and pelvic cavities to diagnose for and treat gynaecological diseases.
The technique of Laparoscopy serves many functions like the examination, evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of infertility, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, fibroid tumors, and chronic pelvic pain.
Our Gynaecological surgeons now perform almost all surgical procedures laparoscopically, which were previously performed through traditional open surgical methods leading to scars, longer downtime and curbing the mental impact of surgeries on patients.
Some of the common laparoscopic procedures performed in our facilities are:
Ovarian Cystectomy
Ovarian Cyst in a woman develops when the follicles in the ovaries fail to release an egg and the process of ovulation gets disordered. Follicle cells continue secreting the follicle fluid though, enlarging the follicles, which later develop into cysts.
Ovaries are organs found in a woman’s pelvis and are responsible in the production of sex hormones and housing an egg before ovulation.
Ovarian Cystectomy is a laparoscopic approach to the surgical removal of ovarian cysts. The procedure begins with a small incision created right below the navel, where our surgeons insert the laparoscope to view the organs. On detection of the location of cysts, a few more incisions are made, and the cysts are removed. A small sample of ovarian tissues is also collected to examine it for cancer.
Laparoscopic-assisted colonoscopic polypectomy
This surgical procedure works effectively to remove polyps in the colon, with accounts for difficult accessibility.
During the procedure, a laparoscope is used to position and mobilize the right colon instead of retrieving a section of the ascending colon to surgically remove the polyps formed on the structure. Our surgeons remove the polyps from the right colon without disrupting the anatomical position of the large intestine.
Myomectomy
Myomectomy is a type of the laparoscopic surgery which deals with the removal of uterine fibroids. Uterine fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumors formed in a woman’s uterus.
In some women, uterine fibroids may show symptoms like frequent urination, painful sex and pelvic pain, and irregular and heavy periods.
Myomectomy can be performed as abdominal, laparoscopic, or hysteroscopic, however our surgeons focus on the laparoscopic approach to Myomectomy as it is followed by a faster recovery and reduced pain.
During laparoscopic Myomectomy, our surgeons create a few small incisions in the patient’s lower abdomen. Laparoscope is inserted inside one of these incisions and other surgical instruments penetrate through the other incisions.
Our surgeons also perform this procedure robotically where they remotely control the movement of the surgical instruments, through a robotic arm.
Upon reaching the position of fibroids, the surgeons might break them into smaller pieces for easy removal. Sometimes the fibroids grow larger and cannot be removed laparoscopically; during those circumstances, our surgeons switch to the method of abdominal Myomectomy where they create a larger incision in the patient’s abdomen, and successfully remove the fibroids.
Dilation and Curettage (D&C)
Dilation and Curettage is a surgical procedure characterized by the removal of internal tissues of a woman’s uterus. Dilation and Curettage is recommended and performed by our surgeons when a woman experiences abnormal uterine bleeding, bleeding after the onset of menopause, when our gynaecologists detect abnormal growth of endometrial cells during examination of uterine cancer, or when the incidence of abortion and miscarriage is followed by a blockage in the uterine lining
During this process, the woman’s cervix is surgically dilated to allow the curette (a surgical instrument) to enter the uterine lining and remove the uterine tissue.
Hysterectomy
Hysterectomy is another surgical procedure performed by our gynaecological surgeons to remove a woman’s uterus.
Hysterectomy is recommended by our surgeons to treat a range of conditions like: Endometriosis, Adenomyosis (uterus thickening), uterine fibroids causing extreme bleeding and pain, cancer of the vulva, cervix, uterus, ovaries or the fallopian tubes, chronic pelvic pain, and abnormal vaginal bleeding.
The non-cancerous (Benign) conditions of a woman’s reproductive system are managed through other medical or minimally invasive surgical procedures. Hysterectomy for these conditions is our surgeon’s last approach to treatment when all other approaches do not show the desired results.
Our surgical techniques of hysterectomy vary depending on the severity of our patient’s condition. We offer both open surgery hysterectomy and laparoscopic hysterectomy. In conditions like uterus cancer, the uterus, the cervix and the tissues surrounding these structures are surgically removed. For less severe conditions, our surgeons remove only the uterus without removing the cervix.
